Pres. Staino’s Aug '10 Message to Medical Center CSEA Unit 9201 Members
August 2010
To: All CSEA Unit 9201 Members
Westchester Medical Center
From: John Staino
One thing that we can all be assured of is that eventually everything will change. Whether we are ready for change is not the issue. For me, change has come and I have accepted that I will have to change with it. I am no longer working at Westchester Medical Center. I have taken over the Presidency of our CSEA Local 860 as of July 17, 2010.
Jack McPhillips, who was our Local 860 President for the last five years, has taken the early retirement incentive that was offered by the State. His last day was July 16, 2010. While we all appreciate the leadership and guidance he provided us during these past years and wish him well in his new life, we are still facing many obstacles in the future. These are some of the toughest times-------no, these are the toughest times that our generation has ever seen. The perils that we are now going through and the continued pressure to come down on UNIONS as the underlying reason for the public’s problems are issues that we will continue to face over the next few years.
I have been there with all of you at 9201 facing the economic downturn, the layoffs and the uncertainty of the future. I have always tried my best to represent you and fight the battles that needed to be fought when I was the Vice-President and continued to do so under Pete Piazza’s term. You are my 2nd family and those feelings will always remain within me.
I now find myself in position as the President of all of the Westchester County CSEA members in all Units and my involvement in 9201’s affairs must take the proper place within that structured position. I will be there to help, in my new position as Local President, when my presence is needed and requested by the President of Unit 9201.
However, the frequent and routine business that is conducted with management on a day to day basis will have to fall to someone else.
I am wishing all of you a prosperous and healthy future and I hope that all of you will continue to support the initiatives that CSEA takes to best represent its members.
John Staino
CSEA Local 860 President
